It began with a seed (ngwet ) – small, fragile, yet nurtured into a global Voice.

In the lush highlands of Bamenda, Cameroon, the origins of the Bantu civilization, where traditions breathe through the land and resilience defines the people, a young woman discovers something greater  a united African Culture.
That discovery did not stay in Bamenda. its took flights, crossing continents and generations, and became a living visionary and founder known today as The Africa We Want e.V. nonprofit organization

When Dr. Susan Tatah arrived in Germany, fleeing from the conflicts of the Southern Cameroons conflict in late 90s, she carried not just the wounds, her education or ambition – she carried Ngwokwong, Bamenda, Cameroon and Africa in her heart

Amid a foreign culture, she missed her Village and Culture and later she will discover the growing disconnect between Africans on the continent and those in the diaspora. She saw a need- a space for cultural celebration, home feeling and gathering. Out of that need, she created what would become a cornerstone of Pan-African unity in Germany, the continent of Europe: the Afrika Festival Tübingen, launched in 2007.

What began as a small gathering of Africans in Germany soon grew into Germany’s largest African Diaspora Festival, welcoming thousands of people each year to celebrate culture, heritage, and togetherness.

The festival became a home away from home – a place where Africa’s drums and rhythms spoke louder than borders.

The seed (ngwet) did not stop growing.

From that first festival sprouted a network of Pan-African platforms, each rooted in the same purpose to reconnect, share and empower.

Pan-African Daily TV – a digital media platform sharing African voices and bridging conversations between Africa and its diaspora.

The Babot Awards – honoring legacy, heritage, Ancestry across African communities worldwide.

MEYI Women motherhood Initiative – supporting people affected by conflicts and displacement, beginning with the “Bamenda Girls Stop the War” campaign.

Each project adds a new leaf to the tree — a growing ecosystem of platforms working toward one shared goal: the Africa we want.

Like any living vision, The Africa We Want e.V. faced its share of challenges from financial constraints to the complexity of cross-continental collaboration and communication

Yet, through every difficulty, the organization found strength in unity, creativity, and volunteerism.
What keeps it alive is not money, it’s commitment, faith, and a deep belief in Africa’s potential to define its own destiny.

“Africa does not need saving. It needs space to grow its own solutions.”
— Dr. Susan Tatah

Her journey reminds us that Africa’s model of leadership is not about position it’s about care and to serve!

Today, The Africa We Want e.V. is not just another nonprofit. It is a global Organization connecting artists, activists, educators, and entrepreneurs from Africa and beyond.

From Bamenda’s red soil to Germany’s cultural heart, this vision has built bridges where walls once stood. It continues to inspire Africans and friends of Africa worldwide to imagine a future of care and shared prosperity.

What began with a seed (ngwet) has grown into a global forest of  inspiration and empowerment. The Africa We Want e.V. continues to grow through partnerships, collaborations, and the energy of people who believe in Africa’s renaissance.

Every project, every volunteer, every voice contributes to the vision, a self-reliant Africa connected with its diaspora and celebrated on the global stage.

It began with a seed (ngwet).
And the seed (ngwet) still grows reaching every corner where Africans and people dream, create, and care.
