The Babot Award: Tribute to the enduring legacy of Baba Babot-Ngwokwong Village, a spirit of compassion, resilience, and service to others

“The Babot Award” is a tribute to the enduring legacy of Baba Babot of Ngwokwong Village, a man whose life embodied the spirit of compassion, resilience, and service to others.

Though born and raised without formal education, Baba Babot believed deeply in the transformative power of learning, care, and community. He devoted his life to uplifting those around him, sponsoring youths in his village, supporting widows and orphans, and building a church that became a sanctuary of hope for many.

10yrs ago, when he passed, in his will, he requested that his remains be lowered in the grave not by the elders, church leader, family as it usaully the case but by the youth of Ngwokwong Village – a profound act of gratitude and respect for a man who had believed so strongly in their future.

The Babot Award is more than an honor; it is a living legacy.
It recognizes individuals and organizations that embody the same values Baba Babot lived by:

  • Care and Compassion for humanity

  • Empowerment through Education

  • Community Service and Leadership

  • Faith and Cultural Continuity

The Babot Award, stands as a bridge between generations, connecting the wisdom of our elders with the dreams of our youth, and carrying forward a message that care and empowerment is a significant value in the African culture.

Established under The Africa We Want e.V., the Babot Award continues Baba Babot’s mission on a global stage.
Each year, starting in Tübingen Germany June 04- 07, 2026 during the ceremong of 26. Afrika Festival Tübingen Germany, The Babot Award will recognize changemakers from Africa and the diaspora who dedicate their work to building stronger communities, uplifting the vulnerable, and nurturing the next generation

Through this award, we celebrate not only achievement but acts of care that keep our humanity alive.

The Babot Award shall be dedicated to support local initiatives in Ngwokwong Village, Cameroon, including:

  • Sustaining the church built by Baba Babot as a symbol of unity and hope.

  • Empowering youth through education and vocational training.

  • Supporting widows and orphans, the heartbeat of his lifelong mission.

By honoring his legacy, The Africa We Want e.V. ensures that his seed of love continues to grow from Ngwokwong to the world.

“My father, Baba Babot, taught me that greatness is not measured by wealth or education, but by how much we care for one another.
The Babot Award is my way of keeping his light alive so that his story, like so many unsung African heroes, continues to inspire generations.”
